New bulk action! Change your page owners in bulk

Hi Confluence admins,

John here with a new update: we've added the ability for you to bulk change page owners within the Content Manager hub!

To support the new action, we've created a new filter that allows you to quickly filter to all pages that have an owner that is an inactive user as well as a picker of those inactive owners.

How it works

A space admin first navigates to the Content Manager feature within the left nav within the desired space:

Once in the Content Manager feature, admins can then click on the 'Filters' dropdown and select the 'Pages without active owners' option to see all pages owner by users who are no longer active:

Finally, an admin can then check the box next to the desired pages to change the owner of, and then click the 'Change owner' button to bulk change them to the desired owner:

FAQs

Which editions of Confluence Cloud is this available to?

Customers on our Premium and Enterprise editions only.

Can I bulk change the owner of pages that are owned by an active page owner?

Not yet, but we're actively working on building this capability as well, and plan to release it in the next few weeks.

When can I start using this update?

The action will finish being rolled out to all customers by the end of this week, April 5.

This is amazing. I have been holding off from doing this 'onsie-twosie' while this action was being developed. Excited to soon have all of our pages OWNED by active team members.

AGAIN? Premium and Enterprise only? Can you PLEASE stop f*cking the customer on Confluence Standard? Holding administration functions like this to ransom over and over again. This nickel and diming over basic functionality being held back. Its not making me more likely to upgrade, its making me more likely to recommend moving away from the platform. Its enraging.

HI John looks like a nice feature and something that should perhaps be basic admins features. Maybe its best to lead in the title with Premium and Enterprise only so anyone on the Standard package doesn't waste time with it?

This looks like a handy feature for admins to sweep spaces to ensure that the correct access is in place also or if staff leave or change roles.

Having looked around at the packages where more and more generic security features are lacking I'm struggling to find that even premium offers much more in the way of added security features and Enterprise is off limits due to company or user base size.

I understand the need to "upsell" customers but when premium still doesnt off all that much more over standard it doesnt seem all that good value.

Is this feature available in the Access package too? Perhaps all these security types features would be best suited to the access package which can be subscribed to on Standard and Premium but is included in Enterprise leaving the other less security focused options for the different levels of package.

Security features shouldnt really "off limits" based on a spend level however making the features easier to manage and implement perhaps could be.

The Standard package does seem quite limiting in terms of basic security feature from an admin perspective.

Forgive my rage - but I think this was the tipping point for me. I should have been as calm as @Paul Burville in my response. However, I have complained about this before, about *BASIC* features being held back for Premium and Enterprise, and @John Hooper said " I understand where you're coming from, and you're totally right that a number of recent releases have been for the Premium and Enterprise only plans." in the Mission Control post.

Organisations with thousands of users (like ours), which are primarily an R&D software company use Confluence Standard. We are not an organisation with 20 users, or a small startup trying to get things for free. We pay Atlassian a 6 figure sum every year to use Confluence. Can you imagine bulk editing of Jira issues only being allowed in Jira Premium?

This is pathetic... This should be a standard feature, but no, as always Atlassian need to be greedy. It would cost my company almost twice as much for something that should have been there from the start (changing Owner of a page) now making retroactive change a pain. Shame on you!

I don't see this feature and am using Confluence Premium. Is it slowly rolling out?

Awesome, @John Hooper and team! Well done! Takk for this. I had missed this post originally but it was brought to my attention today. So glad this is here.

I have to say... this feels like a kick in the teeth. I participated in the early access program for page ownership and did a feedback interview over video with Atlassian. During the interview, I gave this exact item as a piece of feedback: we really need a way to bulk change page owners, as admins often bulk create pages within a space but don't have anything to do with the content.

Now the feature I asked for and really needed has been added to premium. My company is on standard. This isn't a "premium" feature; this is basic administration.

Shame on Atlassian for monetizing this. I drove the adoption of Confluence at our company, and I will happily drive us right to a different solution at the rate this is going.

@Laura Rusenstrom Get in touch with Atlassian on this. If you have a CSM, make it known how angry you are. I spoke to @John Hooper on this and he listened. I really hope this BASIC admin stuff stops getting held over to Premium.
