New Atlassian Intelligence features are available in Jira!

At Unleash in December 2023, we announced the general availability of two Atlassian Intelligence (AI) features for Jira cloud, natural language to JQL and generative AI in the editor. Yesterday we shared even more exciting news: fresh capabilities are available! Teams now have even more ways to leverage Atlassian Intelligence to accelerate their work, reduce manual tasks, and deliver value faster.

Read on for more details on what’s now available (and what’s coming soon) and how to access AI features!⤵

AI Automation (available now)

Automate tedious tasks using natural language

Creating automation rules is an essential step of your automation practices, but can take up valuable time you could be spending elsewhere. Using natural language to create automation rules makes fast work of a time-consuming task. Simply describe what you’d like to automate, and AI will generate the rule for you in seconds.

Let AI cut big tasks into bite-sized pieces

Say goodbye to creating issues one by one and let Atlassian Intelligence do the heavy lifting. Simply choose what issue type you want suggestions for, and AI work breakdown makes suggestions for breaking epics into issues, or issues into sub-tasks. AI work breakdown has started rolling out in beta, and will be available to all users soon.

  • Pull relevant context for child issues and tasks to create from issue descriptions, comments, and linked Confluence pages

  • Get multiple suggestions, easily request additional options, and review before generating child issues

  • Adjust and refine auto-filled details like summary, description, and other info

AI Summaries (coming soon)

Summarize information and get recommendations at scale

Soon, issue summaries will be available in the new, combined Jira (formerly Jira Software and Jira Work Management), allowing you to quickly get up to speed, understand context, and resolve issues. Further, you can get a summary by hovering over a Confluence, Jira, or Google Docs Smart Link.

Whether its adjusting your headings, your language, or grabbing that extra bit of information, ensure your issues are well understood and actionable by your colleagues.

Make issue descriptions more clear

Ever realize a critical requirement from a ticket has been overlooked? A root cause for problems like this is often issue clarity — AI issue reformatter, a generative AI prompt option, solves this by reviewing and rewriting issue descriptions for improved clarity.

Spend less time hunting for relevant information

Teams work across many tools, for everything from designs to documentation to spreadsheets. This tool sprawl results in teams having to check multiple places to find the relevant information for a task. Related resources solve this by finding and surfacing key information from across your tools within the Issue.

How to access Atlassian Intelligence

As you may have seen from previous announcements, Atlassian Intelligence will be automatically activated for many Atlassian Premium and Enterprise cloud products starting May 6, at absolutely no extra cost to you. Starting May 6th, Atlassian Intelligence features (including beta features, in addition to those generally available) in Jira will also be automatically activated for all Premium and Enterprise plans.

You can also activate or deactivate Atlassian Intelligence now or anytime in the future.

Atlassian is dedicated to building its solutions in alignment with our responsible technology principles, and will continue to follow our existing data security and privacy practices.

Get updates and share feedback

Jira isn’t the only cloud Atlassian product that has released new AI capabilities; read our blog to learn about advancements in cloud products like Confluence and Jira Service Management — and get a sneak peek of Atlassian Rovo!

You can ask questions and share feedback in a couple of ways:

  • Share feedback directly in the product when prompted - your   and additional feedback helps us a lot!

  • Comment or ask questions in this post, or ask another question for the group

  • From time to time, we’ll also host AMAs and reach out for feedback in the main Atlassian Intelligence Community group

We can’t wait to share future Atlassian Intelligence capabilities with you as they become available!

Cheers,

The Atlassian Intelligence team

This is really helpful, just wondering that are you planning to build a Atlassian Assistance for Estimation as well so that it can provide the story points per work break down items

It's great to see all of this energy put into AI!

One killer-but-absolutely-table-stakes feature we're still missing is the ability to actually disable the whole thing. AI-1 seems to be closed, but the job is only partially done because org admins and anyone not on premium\enterprise still has this problem.

There's a lot of reasons orgs may not want AI in their tooling. They could have a weird hang-up about content being accurate or maybe they don't want to clutter up their interface with functionality with little-to-no value proposition. It's possible they have strange ideas about their data not being used to train models and aren't willing to take it on faith that it won't be. Perhaps they're just paranoid codgers who legitimately think we're one step away from Skynet.

It's great that some of us finally got the ability to disable it in the backend; let's keep that momentum going!
