Create board system in Trello for a client

Jesica _Ser Diseño_ May 2, 2024

Hello!
I’m starting my project management work with a client.
He hired the service of creation and configuration of Trello boards within his account.

My question is:

Is there a way to give me access so I can create boards in his space without having to give me his access information?

How do other freelancers work on these tasks?

Thank you very much!

HI @Jesica _Ser Diseño_

Having been doing this full time for a few years now, these are the 2 options that work most often

Option 1

I tend to create a new Trello workspace to develop the solution, apply the free premium trial for all the features, add the client to it for collaboration, testing and feedback then when it is ready for them to take over transfer the boards and automations to their workspace.

Option 2

Assuming your client is using a paid version of Trello, you could ask them to add you as a workspace member to do the work of setting it up then removing you when you have finished

Top Tip: Create a Trello "Service account" with an email address like <companyname>bot@<companydomain>, use this account to do all of the setup and automations...

Hi @Dreamsuite Mike

Here I'm again.

When I transfer the ownership of a board to another member, I notice that automations are lost. How do you proceed not to lose the job? Is it possible to transfer a complete workspace to someone else and keep the automations?

Thank you very much

It's been a while and I am happy to see you back 😊

This guide will help you through how to transfer automations to a new owner:

Hi @Jesica _Ser Diseño_

Welcome to the community!

In Trello, there are a couple of options work on tasks within a client's board system without having direct access to their account information. Here are two common approaches:

1. Collaborator invitation: The client can invite you as a collaborator to their Trello board. As a collaborator, you will have access to the board and can create, edit, and manage cards within it. The client can invite you by adding your email address to the board's member list and granting you the necessary permissions.

2. Team membership: If the client uses Trello Business Class or Trello Enterprise, they can create a team and add you as a member of that team. As a team member, you can be given access to specific boards within the team. The client can invite you to join the team, and then grant you access to the relevant boards based on your role or responsibilities.

By using one of these approaches, you can work collaboratively with the client on their Trello board system without having to share their account information. This allows you to contribute to the boards, create new boards, and manage tasks within the client's workspace.

Hi @Sushant Verma

Thanks for the welcome.

Your answer helped me understand the details a little more. I’ve been using Trello for years, but it was always for myself.

Thank you so much!

I wish you a good week.
